Our History and Mission Statement

The history of the Dance Studio of Wakefield

The Dance Studio of Wakefield located in Wakefield Massachusetts is just 20 miles north of Boston and was founded in 1979 by the Moore Family. The Dance Studio of Wakefield and its family is thrilled to be celebrating its 30th year of dance education in the Wakefield community.

Sisters Diane Abraham, Susan Edson and Peggy Cerulo were trained by their mother, Carol Moore in Medford and after spending their childhood in the town of Wakefield and graduating from Wakefield High School decided that the community needed a self standing dance center with quality dance classes / education that would be available to students of all ages and levels.

The original dance studio was located on Broadway in the Broadway plaza and was a small 1000 square foot facility. As the student base grew and the demand for more dance classes was needed the Wakefield studio moved to the historic Odd Fellows Building in downtown but still only one classroom was available. From there the studio resided on Delcarmine Street and added a second studio space with additional dance class offerings. After several years the studio had grown enough to warrant a move to its current location at 456 Main Street in Downtown Wakefield MA. This last move gave the studio the opportunity to provide more variety in its dance curriculum / dance lessons, offer students a more diverse and convenient schedule and a facility that can provide all of the modern features to enhance safety in the students dance training.

Our Mission

Our mission at the studio is to continue to give all students quality dance training and education in the many disciplines of dance. The Dance Studio of Wakefield considers itself a performing arts studio that can give each student a well rounded dance education by offering quality lessons and instruction in ballet, jazz of all forms, tap, as well as those programs that enhance this training such as yoga, musical theater, irish, stretch and strengthening, preschool dance, an all boys class and even a two year old introduction to dance program.

It is also our mission to guarantee that any student who takes a dance class with the Dance Studio of Wakefield will safely learn the true techniques in each dance discipline and the teacher will work to make that student the best dancer they can be. It is our mission to provide a safe, warm and loving atmosphere for each student regardless of the level or time commitment and to offer that student and their family a well run dance class, organized and informed front office and a wonderful and carefree performance opportunity in a professionally run recital held locally in Wakefield.

Here at The Dance Studio of Wakefield we have two passions; dance and the education of true dance techniques, and children. We are sure we have found the perfect combination and we very much love what we do. It is not just our job but our passion.
